Celebrating Community, Curiosity, and Connection
At St. Luke’s, we love transforming our environment into a place where children can discover new ideas, celebrate meaningful moments, and feel deeply connected to the community around them. This week, our foyer has undergone another beautiful change, this time in celebration of Canberra Day and the vibrant festivities that make our city so special.
Creating spaces that reflect the world beyond our walls is an important part of how we help children understand where they belong. When we bring elements of Canberra’s culture and celebrations into our learning environments, we offer children the chance to explore, wonder, and make sense of their wider community in ways that feel engaging, accessible, and a little bit magical.

With the Canberra Balloon Spectacular about to fill our skies, excitement is already building. To spark that sense of anticipation, we’ve begun adding new elements to our display, and we’ll continue expanding it over the coming days. Each addition is carefully chosen to invite curiosity and to mirror the beauty and creativity of Canberra’s landmark celebrations.

These experiences support children to:
- explore something new
- experience celebration and beauty firsthand
- feel a sense of belonging to their wider community
- understand how people come together to share joy, creativity, and culture

From the gentle colours and textures that invite sensory play to the conversations that unfold when a child recognises a familiar part of their city, these moments help shape identity and connection. They encourage children to engage with the world around them in thoughtful and imaginative ways.

Bringing a piece of Canberra into St. Luke’s is one of our favourite ways to celebrate our community, and we can’t wait to see how our children interact with the display as the festivities continue to unfold.
